Violence prevention starts at home and through positive parenting

Imagine what a different society we could have lived in if each child was raised by parents/caregivers who taught their children the principles of respect, support and love and where they were nurtured, cared for and disciplined in a positive way. That would surely have brought about a society with much less crime, especially violent crime. Sadly, violence has become almost a societal norm as too many children are exposed from a young age to aggressive and violent adults, including their own parents, and to violence perpetrated by their own peers, such as through bullying. Children may even be disciplined in a violent manner, which may teach them, even inadvertently, that resolving problems must be done using some form of violence (Gould and Ward, 2015).
