Many of us may have fallen into the AI trap, believing that the cute image or reel on social media is true. At the end of 2025, the BBC reported on one video of wild bunnies jumping on a trampoline that had more than 240 million views on TikTok, while two strangers falling in love on the New York subway had millions hitting the like button (Germain, 2025). Both videos played with our “feel-good emotions”; both videos were totally fake.
No harm in that, one can argue.
The problem is that the misuse of artificial Intelligence (AI), does not stop with the creation of these “innocent” videos. It is used to scam people in different ways, which is why we need to be able to distinguish between fake and fact; AI and authentic.
