QUESTION
A reader refers Pollex to two articles that were published in Servamus: November 2024. The one article is entitled A hidden world: Match-fixing on the dark web, and the other article is entitled Game of deceit: Corruption in sport. According to our reader, the two articles are primarily about match-fixing abroad (in foreign countries). Accordingly, our reader wants to know what the situation – legally speaking – will be in South Africa?

ANSWER
As far as the matter under discussion is concerned, it is currently regulated by our Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act 12 of 2004 (hereinafter referred to as Act 12 of 2004).

Pollex will quote the verbatim (word for word), relevant provisions and/or sections of Act 12 of 2004, followed by a brief summary.
