The Domestic Violence Act 116 of 1998 (hereinafter referred to as Act 116 of 1998) is amended by the Domestic Violence Amendment Act 14 of 2021 which appears in English and Afrikaans in Government Gazette No 45824 dated 28 January 2022 (hereinafter referred to as the “Amendment Act”).
In terms of Government Gazette No 48419 dated 14 April 2023, this entire Amendment Act (with the exception of section 6A*) came into operation on 14 April 2023.
This Amendment Act is rather lengthy and extremely complex. Because of the extent (Afrikaans: “omvang”) of the amendments brought about by this Amendment Act, it is impractical to publish it all in Servamus as a whole. Pollex has, however, put together, assembled and/or constructed for his own use the previous Act 116 of 1998 (or what is left of it), into this Amendment Act so that it ends up in a chronological, complete and understandable Act 116 of 1998. It is suggested that SAPS police stations and/or courts of law and/or relevant Government Departments, do the same.
