E-waste has become a growing environmental crime, with criminal gangs abusing weak legislative enforcement to profit from the transportation and disposal of electronic items. Millions of devices cross borders, exposing vulnerable communities to serious environmental and health problems.<\/p><p>Every year, millions of electronic devices reach the end of their useful lives. Newer models replace old cellphones, computers are upgraded and broken appliances are discarded. But what happens after these devices disappear from homes and offices is often hidden from public view. Behind the convenience of constant technological upgrades lies a darker reality: illegal e-waste management has become an increasingly common form of environmental crime.
